Reception

This half term the Reception children have been learning all about space and are now learning about different celebrations in the lead up to Christmas. This week we have been finding out about Diwali, the festival of light and listening to the story of Rama and Sita.  We are talking about birthday celebrations and how people all celebrate in their own ways with different customs and traditions.

We have been working our way through the initial sounds in phonics and by Christmas, will have covered all set 1 'Read Write Inc' sounds! We are learning how to segment and blend which is helping us with our reading and writing.

We have also been retelling some familiar stories using actions and expressive voices to help us  remember story telling language. Some of our favourite books have been 'Owl Babies', 'My Mum/Dad' and 'Whatever Next'.

In our number work we have been recently learning how to recognise and sequence numbers up to 20. We are practising our careful counting skills and can recall number doubles up to 10. We have also been adding and subtracting using objects to help us.

We have been learning 2D shape names and trying to recognise them in different contexts.

We are currently learning a range of rhymes and songs, learning about rhythm.
