Summer 2024
Reception enjoyed a visit from Jenny of Smileville Orthodonics last week. They learnt how important it is to look after their teeth.
Action Ants
Reception has had lots of fun this term by participating in action ants! The children have demonstrated excellent balance and agility whilst travelling along the obstacle course. We have practised jumping with two feet together and over the hurdles.
Planting sunflower seeds
Observing signs of spring
We have used iPads to take pictures of the signs of spring on our school grounds. We saw blossom trees, daffodils, birds and minibeasts. The children were very excited when we found a bird's nest in our little garden!
What the Ladybird Heard
This term our Talk For Writing book has been 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson. We made our own maps and then used them to find the fine prize cow in the garden. In technology, the children were very eager to experiment with beebots. They used positional language to describe the location on their maps.
Building with loose parts
We have enjoyed getting outside and using our imagination to create inventions using loose parts. The children used their resilience and perseverance to keep trying when facing an obstacle.
Making clay sculptures
This term we have re-visited the artist Romero Britto. We made our clay sculptures by rolling the clay into a slab and using a variety of tools to make patterns and imprints. We used our prior learning and knowledge of Romero Britto's artwork to inspire our designs.
Maths
This term we have looked at the composition of 10. The children worked hard using the numicon to see what number bonds go together to make 10. We have explored shapes and made shape pictures by combining them. We loved using tangrams and making our own. Children have used their prior knowledge to make more complex repeating patterns. We have looked at sharing a number equally between two people. The children shared the buttons equally between two gingerbread men.
